ELENa ZANZU
EZ explores power dynamics and the pact negotiated between artist and audience. Through practices that are both extreme and tender, Zanzu extends an open invitation to a vulnerable dialogue around care.
EZ challenges binarisms such as activity/passivity, domination/submission, male/female, pain/pleasure, artist/audience. Is it a ritual? Can we laugh? How could taking care of that space manifest? Meaning no in Basque, EZ is an invitation to the yes, which is only possible when no is also an option.
For its technical and philosophical contributions, EZ is cited in several publications and academic works and has been awarded as a Circusnext Laureate project. It addresses deep questions speaking a peculiar language that communicates directly to the guts and heart, making this performance one of a kind.

Elena Zanzu is a researcher, performer, author, dramaturg, and curator. Their practical and theoretical interests revolve around gender, body, disability, ethics, care, negotiation, and methodologies of artistic research. They studied Philosophy in Bologna and Circus in Montreal. They were part of the research project Circus Dialogues (continued) at Kask University in Gent and have been teaching at the Gender Master’s Program of the Autonomous University of Barcelona for the last ten years. They curate the program of encounters, conferences and festivals. They write and give talks, lectures and performance-lectures, among which Who Cares for Whom?. They are the mentor of creation Labs and the external eye of several artistic projects. They are the coordinator of researches - among which Hyp_No Project - and they are touring with the solo piece EZ.
